However, you may face different kinds of situations like lightly, moderately and heavily unequal surfaces. I will try to cover all possible situations in this article. Before that, there are some important things that you should know. Let’s take a glance at them.

How to Level a Large Yard

Best time to level the yard

It is recommended to level your yard in the early fall. If you level your yard in the early fall, then your soil will remain enough warm for rapid germination. Without it, your new grass will not be stressed by the summer heat and it will be allowed for establishing powerful roots before winter.

Things you will be required:

  • Hand metal rake.
  • Topsoil.
  • Wheelbarrow.
  • Lawn roller.
  • Plastic pots.

Gently unequal large yard

Well, the gently unequal areas are the most common type of yard. For this kind of yard, the most genuine technique is topdressing. To deal with your gently unequal area, you have to follow the described steps:

At first, you have to collect sand, compost and mud. Then, make a composition of them and put them into a pot. After that, put the composition on your lawn with 1/2-inches high on the uneven areas. Go through the process steadily. Make sure that the grasses are not removed from the critical areas of your yard.

However, you can take exploit a rake on the soil for spreading out the composition properly. Then, use the push broom tool in order to make your composition working between the grasses and blades. At last, follow the growth of your lawn awaiting only grass is there, without any dirt on your yard.

Moderately unequal yard

Well, the topdressing technique that I have mentioned above may take some time to work about a week. However, you will not find this technique much effective if your yard holds some lower spots. In this kind of situation, you will need to put some mud below the layer rather than putting sod to obtain the maximum output. Follow the technique as I describe:

At first, you need to remove grass from the lower areas of your yard. Then, fill up the lower areas or holes using topsoil for making the area smooth as you’ve altered sod already. After that, while filling the holes, keep some water below with topsoil to be free from air. Lastly, you have to alter the sod and then watering the grasses.

Heavily unequal yard

Well, the heavily unequal yard means the extreme case of your unequal yard. In this section, I will tell you about how you can deal with your heavily unequal yard. However, if the unevenness is at an extreme level, then the above-mentioned two techniques will not help much.

In this case, you have to go through a widespread reformation by reorganizing the surface of your yard and creating a new layer of grass. In order to do that, you have two options. Either you can go for laying the sod and growing grasses from the seeds.

Following any of the above-mentioned options, you will get your issues resolved. Both of the alternatives are good to follow. However, after getting your surface level, you will have to take care of your grass properly. Don’t forget it.
