How to Fix Self Propelled Lawn Mower Cable

Disconnect the plug

In every self propelled lawn mower has a spark plug. Find this spark plug. Disconnect the spark plug wire from the plug perfectly.

Release the cable

There is a mower handle. You will find a cable clip which needs to pivot up. It will help you to release the cable from the mower handle. There is a bail control bar and you need to release the zone control cable from it.

Find out the drive control lever. Now release the drive cable from the lever. There is also a release tap and depress it. After depressing the release tab you will be able to pull out the zone control clip of the drive cable clip.

It’s time to secure the cable. For this, you need to cut the cable ties. It can secure the cables to the mower handle.

The drive cover

For this, you need to follow some step by step guideline. First of all, find out the fuel tank and you will see there is a top. You need to remove this top.

Now take a plastic sandwich bag you collect before. Place this bag over the fuel tank opening. Reinstall the top of the fuel tank. This plastic bag is very much needed to prevent leaking of gasoline, which come through the fuel cap vent.

Now tilt the mower. Lift the front wheels and secure the whole mower with the handle. Ensure that the mower is steady enough to remove the screws (bottom mounting screws).

This screw is holding the bottom drive cover. Unscrew it. Now release the handle of the mower. Lower the mower carefully and slowly in an upright position.

Now remove the top drive cover mounting screws. There is a height adjustment lever you will find. Release the lever, then the drive cover coming off with a little pull.

Remove the cable

You need to remove the drive cable end. For this, you need to focus on the anchor post. Here you will find the end of the cable. Now remove the cable it from here.

Now the release tab needs to depress. It will give you the scope to pull the drive cable sheath. This sheath needs to out of the transmission lever. Now it’s become easy for you to remove the whole cable and do it.

Connection of the new cable

Now push the sheath of the drive cable into the transmission lever.

Reinstallation of the drive cover

Take the drive cover and place it again in the position. After placing it rearrange the height adjustment lever. Now take the drive cover top mounting screws and reinstall it properly.

Lift the front wheel. For that tilt the mower. After doing this you need to reinstall the drive cover’s bottom mounting screws. Tilt the mower upright just releasing the mower handle.

Now open the fuel tank cap. Here the plastic bag you place over the fuel tank opening, take it off and reinstall the fuel tank cap.

New Drive Cable

One more cable you need to install and that is a drive cable. The cable needs a route. You guide it around the engine. In a specific way, we can say the right side.

Make a connection of the zone control cable to the drive cable clip. Bail control bar needs to be connected with the zone control cable. Connect the drive cable with the control lever.

Now take the drive cable clip and snap it. Install the new cable ties. This cable also needs to hold against the handle of the mower. There is an end comes out of the cable tie. Trim it perfectly.

Connect the plug

this is the final step of fixing the self propelled lawn mower cable and make it operational. Take the spark plug wire and connect it with the spark plug. You are done with the mower cable fixing and replacing.
